When Was Drink Botanicals Ireland Founded?
Drink Botanicals Ireland is an award-winning Irish business that was founded by Laura McCarthy.
It all started when Laura was studying marketing in TU Dublin and noticed a gap in the Irish drinks market. With the growing trend of gin, she saw an opportunity to create a product that would allow consumers to make luxurious gin and tonics or cocktails in the comfort of their own home. She visited many bars that served gin and tonics with botanicals such as juniper berries and hibiscus, but noticed that there was no product available in retail stores for consumers to recreate this “bar experience” at home.
Determined to fill this gap, Laura approached her local off-licence in Dublin – Redmonds of Ranelagh – with her idea. They thought it was brilliant and ordered a dozen Gin Fusion Kits to trial. A week later, Laura received a phone call to say they were sold out. It was at that moment she knew her business idea had the potential to grow.
Within two years, the business had secured distribution in over 200 off-licences and supermarkets across the country with the Gin Fusion Kit.magna aliquam erat volutpat.
New Product Development
During the covid-19 pandemic, while the business was thriving with consumers purchasing kits to make cocktails at home, it also gave Laura an opportunity to think of new product development opportunities when the hospitality industry would reopen.
Laura noticed that many consumers became discerning during the pandemic and wanted to upgrade to higher-quality products. She also noticed that many syrup brands on the market contained lots of artificial colourings and flavourings. With this in mind, she knew there was a market to launch syrups that were healthier and contained more natural ingredients. As well as this, she noticed that many bartenders and bakeries were also dehydrating and making their own garnishes from scratch, which can be very time-consuming and labour-intensive. Based on this, Laura knew there was a market to launch ready-made, pre-prepared dried garnishes, to remove the burden for consumers and bartenders having to prepare and make their own from scratch.
Today, Drink Botanicals Ireland is proud to supply hundreds of major retailers, bars, restaurants, and hotels with their versatile product range, not just in Ireland but worldwide.
